Perkins not interested in Iowa’s AD opening

Lew Perkins isn’t interested in filling the athletic director vacancy at Iowa University, his alma mater.

Perkins, nearing his third full year as AD at Kansas University, has removed his name from consideration for the Iowa post, according to the Des Moines Register.

Iowa U. officials have cloaked their search for a replacement for Bob Bowlsby, who will take over as Stanford’s AD in July, under a veil of secrecy.

“We’re trying to keep this process as confidential as possible because it’s not fair to the people involved to have their names brought up in the media,” search committee co-chair Charles Lynch told the Des Moines newspaper.

Perkins, who played basketball for the Hawkeyes from 1965-67, became Kansas AD in July of 2003 after spending 14 years in a similar post at Connecticut U.

Perkins, 61, is the highest-paid public official in Kansas, according to figures supplied by the Kansas Dept. of Administration. His annual salary is listed at $604,805.
