From the Lawrence Daily World of June 21, 1906: “The University of Kansas has purchased of H.T. Martin his collection of over 200 mammal specimens which he collected in South America in 1903 and 1904. This collection is the most valuable acquisition which the university has made since Paleontological specimens began to absorb the attention of Dr. W.W. Willis 10 years ago. : A modern house in Lawrence has a new meaning from that of a short time ago. It used to be taken for granted that a modern house had water, sewage facilities and gas for lighting. Now it must have natural gas for lighting, heating, cooking and other uses. : A package containing several hundred posters was received in Lawrence today, apparently printed out of town and sent here for distribution. They contain a general denunciation of police officials, including not only the marshal and his officers but also the city attorney and the police judge. The posters say there are as many as 40 joints open here and that they should be closed.”
