Academy announced for youth musicians

Kansas University’s School of Fine Arts welcomes the International Institute for Young Musicians (IIYM) Summer Music Academy to Lawrence for another year of student music study and competition. IIYM, led by Scott McBride Smith, is an internationally recognized course of study for young pianists and string players from around the world.

This year’s IIYM program features nearly 100 competing students, ranging from ages 11 to 19. The students will arrive from all over the United States, Australia and Asia to participate in music study and competition.

The IIYM program runs from July 2 to July 28. Several events, including a July 9 concert at the Lawrence Arts Center and several Lied Center recitals, are open to the public. For the complete schedule, see www.iiym.com.
