Fairchild inks contract with Cleveland

Former Kansas University starting pitcher Ricky Fairchild has signed a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Indians.

Fairfield, a senior right-hander, started 18 games for the Jayhawks during the 2006 season and compiled a 6-6 record with a 5.95 earned run average.

A native of Dallas, Fairchild transferred to KU last fall from Tulane University. He wasn’t selected in last week’s baseball draft.

Six Jayhawks were selected in the draft – Don Czyz, Sean Land, Gus Milner, Ritchie Price, Jared Schweitzer and Kodiak Quick.
