Sunshine to return this afternoon

Thunderstorms expected to stay to south and west of Lawrence

The clouds might look a little ominous this morning. But thunderstorms are expected to stay to the south and west of the Lawrence area today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“I do not think they threaten us,” Schack said. “It will be quite a while before the sunshine returns. . . . I don’t think we’ll see any sunshine until this afternoon.”

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 65 degrees, the humidity was 81 percent and winds were out of the northeast at 6 mph.

The temperature was expected to rise to 75 degrees by noon and climb to 80 by late afternoon, Schack said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 57 degrees by early Tuesday morning, she said.

“We’ll have plenty of sunshine for Tuesday,” Schack said.

Temperatures will climb to a high of 85 degrees by late Tuesday afternoon, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 62 degrees. Wednesday’s high will climb to 90, she said.
