Tafanelli seeks re-election

State Rep. Lee Tafanelli, R-Ozawkie, has filed to run for re-election.

Tafanelli was first elected to the House in 2000, but then resigned in 2004 when his Kansas National Guard unit was called to active duty and sent to Iraq.

Tafanelli was commander of the 891st Engineering Battalion, which returned in December 2005 after a year of deployment.

He then took over his position in the House during the 2006 legislative session.

No one else has entered the GOP primary in the district, which includes all of Jefferson County and part of Atchison County. One Democrat has filed to run: Jim Faris of Ozawkie, who plays bass and fiddle in The Faris Family, a bluegrass band that performs in the region.
