Most storms staying off to the east

Grab a water bottle if you’ll be outside this afternoon. Sunshine returns today, with the temperature climbing into the upper 80s, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’ve seen a few clouds out there this morning, but we have not seen any rainfall,” Schack said. “It feels kind of sticky out there.”

At 7:30 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 70 degrees, the humidity was 84 percent and winds were out of the south at 8 mph.

Today’s morning low was 67 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 62 degrees. The record low was 46 degrees, set in 1996.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 30 percent chance for thunderstorms today, with some storms bringing large hail and damaging winds.

Schack said she expected most of the storms to stay east of Lawrence, with today’s high temperature climbing to 88 degrees and mostly sunny skies this afternoon. The average high temperature for this date is 83 degrees. The record high was 99 degrees, set in 1934.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will be 61, climbing to a high of 89 by Wednesday afternoon.

The morning temperature on Thursday will start out at 63 degrees. Thursday’s high temperature will reach 90 degrees.
