OKLAHOMA CITY ? Alicia Hollowell threw a four-hitter to help Arizona beat Texas, 2-0, Friday in the second round of the Women’s College World Series.

Arizona (51-10) scored twice in the sixth inning to hand Texas star Cat Osterman only her third loss in 41 games for the Longhorns (55-8) this season.

Osterman hit two batters, walked one and allowed a single by Callista Balko with one out. Caitlin Lowe, who earlier was hit by a pitch and then stole second, scored when Texas left fielder Shannon Thomas misplayed the ball.

Arizona scored its second run on a double steal when pinch-runner Kelly Nelson broke for home and Balko ran for second base. Catcher Megan Willis threw to second in an attempt to get Balko, but the throw was off target and Nelson scored easily.

Hollowell (29-4) struck out nine.

Osterman, who had 18 strikeouts Thursday in Texas’ 2-0 victory over Arizona State to break the World Series record for a seven-inning game, had 13 strikeouts against the Wildcats. She allowed only one hit in six innings.

Northwestern 2, Tennessee 0

Eileen Canney threw a one-hitter, and Darcy Sengewald hit a solo homer for Northwestern (49-13) against Tennessee (59-11).

Northwestern opened the scoring in the sixth inning on Kristen Amegin’s RBI single and added a run in the seventh on Sengewald’s two-out homer off Monica Abbott (42-9).

Canney (25-7) allowed only Jennifer Griffin’s double in the third inning and finished with 10 strikeouts.

Abbott allowed five hits and two runs and struck out 15 for the Vols (59-11), who will play today against the winner of the Oregon State-Arizona State game.

Late Thursday

Tennessee 4, UCLA 3

After being held to just one hit through the first five innings, the Vols (59-10) scored three times on five hits in the sixth inning to beat the top-seeded Bruins late Thursday.
