BR549 member to go solo on Opry

Chuck Mead, a Lawrence native and a founding member of the country rock band BR549, will perform solo tonight and Saturday on the Grand Ole Opry.

According to the Opry’s Web site, Mead is one of three artists scheduled to perform between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. today and 11:30 p.m. and midnight Saturday.

Mead recently toured with The Hillbilly Allstars, a band he put together with bassist Robert Reynolds and drummer Paul Deakin of The Mavericks and singer-actor Mark Collie.

Plans call for The Hillbilly Allstars to release a honky-tonk CD later this summer.

Mead, who lives in Nashville, is the son of Charles and Lois Mead, Lawrence.

The Opry is broadcast live on www.wsmonline.com.
