Studies: Eating fish may help eyesight in old age

It’s long been thought that carrots are good for your eyes, but scientists are pointing to a new food that could prevent old-age blindness: fish.

Two new studies show that fish consumption could help prevent age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in old age. The new studies, appearing Monday in the Archives of Ophthalmology, add to past evidence that eating fish protects the eyes.

One of the studies also found that smokers nearly doubled their risk of the eye condition compared to people who never smoked.
