“It’s going to be quite a soaker,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “We are expecting periods of heavy rainfall through the midday.”

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the Lawrence area, with the high temperatures reaching 80 degrees

“We could see a few strong storms develop this afternoon and evening,” she said. Winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport reported 0.2 of an inch of rain. The temperature was 70 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were out of the east-northeast at 3 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 70 degrees. The record low was 56 degrees, set in 1961.

The average high temperature for this date is 90 degrees. The record high was 107 degrees, set in 1980.

Overnight, there’s a chance for more showers and thunderstorms, Schack said. Tuesday morning’s low temperature will be 70 degrees, she said.

The chance for storms drops off on Tuesday, with the high reaching 88 degrees Tuesday afternoon, Schack said. Skies will be partly cloudy.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 72 degrees, with the high climbing to 94 degrees, she said.
