Kannon Shanmugam will be the keynote speaker at the Lawrence Schools Foundation’s Annual Community Breakfast on Aug. 31.

A 1989 graduate of Lawrence High School, Shanmugam is an assistant to the solicitor general at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He has twice argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Washingtonian magazine last year named Shanmugam one of the city’s fastest rising “legal stars.”

Shanmugam graduated from Harvard law School in 1998. He later served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
