Raiders tourney champs

Max Ellenbecker pitched six shutout innings, leading the Lawrence Raiders to the Bartlesville (Okla.) Fourth of July tournament title Tuesday with a 4-0 victory over host Bartlesville.

The Raiders beat Fort Smith, 8-0, earlier Tuesday to advance to the championship.

“We came out today knowing we had to get two wins,” coach Troy Wingert said, “and our kids came out, very workmanlike, and took care of business.”

Ellenbecker, Lisher, Scott Heitshusen and Tyler Knight were named to the all-tournament team. Heitshusen was named MVP.

Wingert said this was the first time a Lawrence team has won the tournament since 1986.
