Casey Davis presided during the June 19 meeting of the Douglas County 4-H Council. Mary Cox, vice president, led the group in the flag salute and 4-H pledge. Members answered roll call by reporting how many food items has been collected since the April meeting.

Callie Fishburn, treasurer, reported the council had $7,511.23. Mary Wakeman, a member of the concession stand committee, reminded each club to make two posters by July 17.

Mary Cox said there would be a birthday party at 3 p.m. Aug. 5 during the Douglas County Free Fair. She said each club would need to bake at least two cakes for the event. She also reminded and encouraged representatives to fill out and send in names of alumni to the Extension office.

Emily Morehouse, a new 4-H Extension agent, was introduced. Members were reminded of the upcoming dates: July 1, Nunemaker and Gilbert Gilges award nominations due; July 15, club votes due to the Extension office; June 30, fair entries due; Aug. 6, state fair entries due to Extension office.

The Douglas County 4-H ambassadors will have a scavenger hunt during the fair. Their booth will be set up on the south side of Building 21.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 21.

¢ The Clinton Eagle 4-H Club’s May meeting was called to order by Kahlyn Heine, president. Roll call was answered by “What will you miss most about school?”

Maria Penrod and Casey Garzillo led the club in singing “John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt.” Sandina Oxford, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting, and the club approved them.

Nicky Snodgrass, recreation leader, led the club in playing “Duck, Duck, Goose.”

¢ The Lone Star 4-H Club met May 8 and June 12 at the Lone Star Church. During the June meeting, club members signed up for volunteer duties to be performed at the Douglas County Free Fair.

The next meeting and mini-fair will be July 10 at the Jaybowl in the Kansas Union.

¢ The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club met May 8 at the Stull United Methodist Church. The club was evaluated by the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club.

The club then met June 10 at Mark and Brenna Wulfkuhle’s farm for a potluck supper. Four-Her’s showed and shared projects that they planned to enter in the Douglas County Free Fair. Members voted to have a float in the Territorial Days Parade on June 24 in Lecompton. The club will have its annual ice cream social from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 16 at the church. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at the church.

¢ Mark Jehle, president, called the May 24 meeting of the Pioneer 4-H Club to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite college. Members were reminded that the Douglas County Free Fair book is online and that the sheep weigh-in would be June 17.

Anna Capra gave a project talk on her bearded dragon. Anthony Capra and Quentin Capra gave a project talk on paintball, and Dominic Capra presented a project talk on steers. For recreation, the club played Hokey Pokey. Club members made a poster for a 4-H concession stand after the meeting. They also recorded them reciting the flag salute to be aired over a local radio station.

¢ Emily Krysztof presided during the June 7 meeting of Palmyra 4-H Club. Megan Brown, club leader, announced that Emily Morehouse was a new 4-H agent. She also said the club needed volunteers to work at a concession stand and watch after buildings during the Douglas County Free Fair.

Olivia Beins lead the club in singing “Camp Granada” in honor of Rock Springs 4-H Camp. Kaleb Horne reminded members that fair entry forms were due June 30. Emily Krysztof talked about wearing a helmet while bicycling. Grace Baxter gave a project talk on how to show beef cattle. For recreation, Ethan Horne and Colton Horne had members guess how many M&M candies were in a jar.

Emily Krysztof and Jennifer Goff each received $50 from the club for their trip to Washington, D.C.

The next meeting will be July 5 at Ives Chapel Church in Baldwin.

¢ The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met June 6 in Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Susan Krumm, county agent, reported that the Douglas County Fair Book is online at www.dgcountyfair.com. It was announced the next Red Cross Blood Drive will be Aug. 17 at First Christian Church. Stull and Willmyra FCE units will each furnish five dozen cookies.

Rachel Purvis talked about the tour scheduled for Oct. 10-12 to Springfield, Ill., and Hannibal, Mo. It is being sponsored by the FCE Council. Reservations must be made by Sept. 6. For more information, call Alice Eisele at 843-7515.

Rachel Purvis also reported that the Fall Festival will be Oct. 20 in Building 21 North at the fairgrounds. The program will be a history of the Fred Harvey Girls.

The nominating committee members for the 2007 council officers are Rachel Purvis, Judy Wulfkuhl and Darlene Bright.

The next FCE Council meeting will be Sept. 5.
