Sunny, warm and breezy today

Pull out the kites and the sunglasses — springlike weather is on tap for Lawrence today.

“We’re heading up to 56 for a high today. We have plenty of sunshine,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Lawrence bottomed out at 29 degrees this morning. And at 8:50 a.m., the temperature was 33 degrees, with the humidity at 70 percent and northwest winds at 12 mph, making the windchill 24 degrees. The average low for this date is 20 degrees and the average high is 40 degrees, Schack said.

There’s only one glitch in today’s forecast – the winds, she said.

“It will be a breezy afternoon,” she said. Winds will be from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph, she said. The National Weather Service says Lawrence could get some gusts today as high as 35 mph.

Overnight, the winds die down to around 10 mph and on Wednesday they switch to the south, coming in at 5 to 12 mph.

Wednesday morning’s low temperature will be 25 degrees, with Wednesday’s afternoon high climbing to 54 degrees, with mostly sunny skies, she said.

There’s a possibility for some afternoon showers on Thursday, Schack said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 27 degrees, with the high reaching 52 degrees on Thursday afternoon, with cloudy skies, she said.
