Someone set a bulletin board on fire Thursday night in a Kansas University residence hall, but KU police say it wasn’t just an innocent prank.

“They set a fire in an occupied building. That makes it aggravated arson,” department spokesman Capt. Schuyler Bailey said.

The fire started at 11:36 p.m. Thursday on the 10th floor of Oliver Hall, 1815 Naismith Drive. It burned the papers on the board and caused smoke damage to the floor’s north wing, Bailey said.

KU Police are asking anyone with information about the fire to call the department at 864-5900 or KU Crime Stoppers at 864-8888. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and can get a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.
