Resurgent Raptors roll

Toronto sets franchise scoring record versus Knicks

? Jalen Rose and the Toronto Raptors ended New York’s winning streak with a record game.

Rose had a season-high 31 points, and the Raptors reached a franchise-high in points, ending New York’s six-game winning streak with a 129-103 rout Sunday.

Morris Peterson added a season-high 28, and Chris Bosh had 23 for the Raptors, who surpassed the previous record of 128 points – done twice. They last did it March 13, 2005, against Philadelphia.

Toronto also scored at least 30 points in all four quarters for the first time in franchise history. And the Raptors shot 59 percent against New York’s porous defense.

“It’s pretty strange for us to have a big-time blowout like that,” said Rose, whose team is 13-24. “When we have a record like we have overall, you don’t see too many games like that.”

The Knicks entered 2006 in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 7-21 mark. But they have played like a new team recently – enjoying their longest winning streak since a seven-game run from Dec. 22, 2000-Jan. 7, 2001.

But the defense hasn’t always been there.

“It’s fool’s gold if you are winning games and are not playing the right way,” said Antonio Davis, who had two points and zero rebounds.

Toronto's Chris Bosh, left, and Jalen Rose celebrate during the second half of a game against the New York Knicks. Rose scored 31 points and Bosh added 23 as Toronto rolled past New York, 129-103, Sunday in Toronto. The 129 points set a Raptors franchise record for most points scored in a game.

Blazers 89, Cavaliers 87

Portland, Ore. – Ruben Patterson and Zach Randolph each had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Portland edged depleted Cleveland.

LeBron James had 29 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists for the Cavaliers, who lost their fourth straight.

The Blazers, who have won three straight for just the second time this season, led by as many as 11 points in the second half. However, James’ three-pointer gave Cleveland an 84-83 lead with 3:10 to go.

Kings 104, Magic 100

Sacramento, Calif. – Mike Bibby finished his career-high 42 points with two clinching free throws with 0.4 seconds left, and Sacramento held off Orlando in a meeting of seriously short-handed teams.

Bibby and Brad Miller were the Kings’ only healthy regular starters, but still carried Sacramento to its 11th straight home victory over the Magic.
