Garden City — A teacher has been arrested on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.
Nadine Nunnelee, 40, of Garden City, was taken into custody Wednesday at Garden City High School, said police Capt. Mike Utz. She had not yet been charged Thursday, Finney County Atty. John Wheeler Jr. said.
Nunnelee is accused of hosting the male student at her home between Dec. 17 and 25.
Police said the relationship appeared to be consensual.
The age of consent in Kansas is 16, but state law makes it illegal for a teacher to have sexual contact with a student who is 16 or 17 and enrolled at the teacher's school.
School officials suspended Nunnelee, who is in her second year with the district, with pay.
