Law Enforcement Report

¢ On Thursday, officials at Southwest Junior High School filed a police report through the school resource officer about vandalism to the campus sometime during the holiday break. The vandalism included destruction of a weather station and a bird-nesting box, according to school officials.

A damage estimate and an official report from police were unavailable on Thursday.

Injury Accidents

¢ A Wathena woman was killed after her vehicle was rear-ended Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 36 three miles east of Troy in Doniphan County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Thelma I. Bird, 63, died after her 1995 Buick Century was struck from behind at 2:10 p.m. by a 2001 Ford F-550 truck, driven by Donald Starks, 49, Laredo, Texas.

The report said Bird was in the process of turning left from the eastbound lane of the road. Starks and his passenger, Raul M. Morales, 43, of Mexico, wore seat belts and were not injured.

The report said it was unknown if Bird wore a seat belt.
