Local insurance agents sell turkey policies

Members of the Lawrence Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors raised $307 for the Salvation Army by selling policies to protect people from burning their holiday turkeys.

The $1 policies, available through Thanksgiving and into December, were sold for the first time this year by association members looking to generate donations to fill food baskets to be distributed by the Salvation Army, said Duane Stohs, an association board member and agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services in Lawrence.

“Although a lot of turkeys were roasted, fortunately there were no claims,” he said.
