Rapper Obie Trice wounded in Detroit shooting

Detroit – Obie Trice was shot early Saturday while driving on a city highway, police said.

Trice, a Detroit native and protege of Eminem, was on the Lodge Freeway about 1:10 a.m. when his vehicle was shot at by someone in another car, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzales.

Trice managed to continue driving and exited the freeway in the suburb of Southfield, where his girlfriend, who also was in the vehicle, flagged down police, Gonzales said. The girlfriend wasn’t wounded.

He was taken to Providence Hospital, where he was treated and released, said hospital spokesman Brian Taylor.

There were no suspects in the shooting, which was under investigation by state police detectives, Gonzales said.

Trice has performed on Eminem records and with 50 Cent.

His 2003 debut album “Cheers” was produced by Eminem, and he also had a small part in the feature film “8 Mile.”

Missouri residents to have chance to appear in movie

Cape Girardeau, Mo. – Residents of this Mississippi River city are getting a chance to appear in a movie starring Diane Lane, Johnny Knoxville and Mickey Rourke.

A four-day shooting schedule will begin Jan. 9 in downtown Cape Girardeau for the movie “Killshot,” based on a novel by Elmore Leonard. It’s about a couple who enter the federal witness protection program and are sent to Cape Girardeau.

About 100 to 150 residents will be hired as extras for scenes of historic downtown streets and spots along the Mississippi River.

Most of the movie was filmed in Toronto, but producers wanted location shots of Cape Girardeau to capture the atmosphere of the 1989 novel.

A cast and crew of about 70 people will be in town Jan. 8 for the filming of the movie.

Prosecution drops murder charges against rapper

Decatur, Ga. – Prosecutors dropped murder charges against rapper Gucci Mane on Friday, saying they did not have enough evidence to try him in the slaying of another rapper.

Mane had been accused in the May 10 shooting of Henry Lee Clark III, a rapper from Macon, Ga. He said he shot Clark in self-defense when Clark and four other men attacked him.

Mane is in jail in Atlanta after pleading no contest to assaulting promoter Troy Buffor with a pool cue in June. He was sentenced to six months and will remain on probation for 6 1/2 years. He also agreed to pay medical bills of about $3,000. Attorney Manny Arora said he should be released in January.
