Offices announce holiday hours

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and Douglas County will be closed Monday in observance of New Year’s Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts.

City offices in most area towns and counties also will be closed.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed.

Banks will be closed.

The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will operate Monday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed Monday.

No city yard waste pickups are scheduled Monday. City residents are asked to put yard waste out with their normal weekly trash pickup. Commercial solid waste routes scheduled for Monday will be made Tuesday.

To report a water or sewer emergency to the city utilities department, call 843-2685.

South Park Recreation Center will be closed Monday. The East Lawrence and the Holcom Park recreation centers and the Community Building will be open Monday. Holiday Happenings at Holcom Park Recreation Center will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open Monday. Carl Knox Natatorium at Lawrence High School will be closed through Jan. 8.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open, weather permitting.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will be closed today and Monday.

The Lawrence Public Library is closed through Monday.

The post office will be closed and regular mail will not be delivered. Express Mail will be delivered. Regular UPS and FedEx deliveries will not be made Monday.

All activities at the Lawrence Senior Center, including clubs, classes and the noon meal and home-delivered meals are canceled for Monday. Meals those days also will not be served at Babcock Place, Edgewood Place, Lecompton, Eudora and Baldwin senior centers. Bus 62 senior service meals will be canceled.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will deliver.

The business office of the Journal-World will be open for walk-ins and phone inquiries from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.

USA Today will not be published Monday.

Liquor stores will be open Monday.
