Douglas County’s 103-year-old courthouse needs some expensive repairs.

Commissioners are hoping some financial help will come in the form of a state Heritage Trust Fund grant.

An application for a $90,000 grant was completed Monday. The county wants the grant to help pay for determining the extent of repairs needed for the limestone structure and developing a preservation plan.

The county must contribute more than $22,000 in matching funds to receive the grant.

That won’t be hard, considering chimney and balcony reconstruction and related work, along with professional fees and expenses, are estimated at $135,500.

The work won’t start until next year.
