“The Little Zoo that Could” (8 p.m., Animal Planet) celebrates a modern-day Noah’s Ark. In September 2004, with Hurricane Ivan bearing down on their location, the director of Alabama’s Gulf Coast Zoo made the remarkable and unprecedented decision to evacuate the animals. With only 36 hours to spare, and no room at any inns for a motley menagerie ranging from big Siberian tigers to tiny bush babies, the animals were relocated to the zookeeper’s house – 20 miles inland. “The Little Zoo that Could,” a struggle to save 270 exotic animals, will air in 13 one-hour installments, beginning tonight.

This unabashed puff piece for the British Royal family offers viewers unprecedented access to the Windsor’s regal pile, a 1,000-year old castle maintained by a staff with hundreds of years of collective experience.

The first installment, “The Banquet,” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation for a state dinner honoring the centennial of L’Entente Cordiale, the 1905 peace treaty between Britain and France.
