Firebirds earn one-pin victory over Topeka High

Kenny Altman rolled a 613 series, and the Free State High boys bowling squad took needed each pin, slipping past Topeka High for a one-pin victory during a three-team match on Senior Day at Royal Crest Lanes. The Firebirds dropped 2,282 pins. Topeka finished at 2,281, while Olathe South came in third at 2,180.

“We had a great day. Lots of treats, lots of flowers and lots of moms and dads watching their kids bowl,” Free State coach Anita Carlson said.

The Free State girls couldn’t make it a sweep, finishing third with 1,835 pins. Topeka won with 1,948, while Olathe South took second with 1,895.

Lindsay Vannicola made the most of her Senior Night, rolling a 495 series to lead the Firebirds.

Free State has two more meets at Royal Crest Lanes. The Firebirds will be listed as the visiting team in Thursday’s rematch with Lawrence High.
