The Lawrence school board rejected a proposed merger with the Lawrence Open School but left open the possibility of approving a revised proposal later. The board rejected on a 4-1 vote the specifics of a plan to house the open school at Grant School, a rural unit with dwindling enrollment. Board member Mary Lou Wright cast the dissenting vote. “This does not preclude us from doing something in the fall,” board president Charles Oldfather said. But many felt the issue had been killed.
