“Celebration of Young Writers” will honor Midwest writers with a spring 2006 essay and poetry contest. More than $3,000 in prizes and awards will be awarded to poets, writers and schools from North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.

The essay contest divisions are grades 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12, with 10 top winners in each division. To enter an essay, write 250 words or less on any nonfiction topic. The deadline is Feb. 15.

The poetry contest divisions are grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and adult, with 10 top winners in each division. To enter, submit one original poem, 21 lines or less. The deadline is April 5.
