Lawrence was bright and chilly this morning, but clouds will move in from the north today, bringing temperatures in the teens and the chance for some light snow tonight, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’ll see a few flurries late tonight and some colder temperatures,” Schack said.

At 8 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 22 degrees, the humidity was 89 percent and winds were from the northwest at 3 mph, making the windchill 17 degrees. The average low for this date is 24 degrees and the record low was minus 13, set in 1895.

“I think we’ll have all sunshine to start this morning,” Schack said. However, clouds will be pushing in from the north in the afternoon, she said. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 12 mph.

“I think it will stay chilly for the afternoon,” she said.

Today’s high will climb to 44 degrees, which is just under the average for this date of 43 degrees, Schack said. The record high for this date was 69 degrees, set in 1925.

“Most likely we’ll have our clouds thicken up overnight; maybe a few flurries” Schack said. Missouri will get light snow, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 23 degrees, with Wednesday’s high reaching 34 degrees, she said. Winds will be from the north at 10 to 15 mph, she said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 14 degrees, with Thursday’s high reaching 45 degrees and mostly sunny skies, she said.

A cold snap begins Friday, with temperatures starting out at 19 degrees in the morning and climbing to onlye 38 degrees by the afternoon, Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 14 degrees, with the high reaching only 32, she said.
