Applications accepted for road dust reduction

Applications are being taken from Douglas County residents wanting dust palliative treatments for public roads they live adjacent to.

The Douglas County Public Works Department will apply liquid calcium chloride or magnesium chloride to rock roads in front of houses to reduce vehicle-created dust. Residents requesting the treatment will pay a fee to cover the cost of material, labor, equipment and road preparation. The fee is expected to cost $1 per linear foot. There also will be a $45 administrative fee and a road preparation fee of 38 cents per linear foot.

The dust reduction is expected to last about a year, said Keith Browning, Public Works director. Many variables affect the effectiveness of the treatment, he said. No refunds or re-treatment will be made for poor performance or reduced performance because of required road maintenance, he said.

For additional information, call Public Works at 832-5293. Applications can be picked up at 1242 Mass. The applications and pre-payment must be received by 5 p.m. March 2.
