Film on ID, evolution premieres Thursday

The world premiere of a documentary covering a statewide controversy – the fight over evolution and intelligent design – will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday in Overland Park. The show is already sold out.

“Flock of Dodos: The Evolution-Intelligent Design Circus,” an 84-minute documentary, will have its first screening at the Glenwood Arts Theatre, 95th Street and Metcalf Avenue.

The movie explores the science controversy in Kansas and Dover, Pa., between mainstream scientists and proponents of ID.

The documentary was done by Randy Olson, who grew up in Johnson County and attended Kansas University before earning a doctorate in evolutionary ecology at Harvard. He later became a filmmaker and lives in California.

Numerous Kansas officials, including some from Lawrence, are in the film.

A panel discussion with representatives from both sides will follow the movie.
