A call this morning from the state’s social-service offices in east Lawrence apparently led police to a woman wanted for questioning in the shooting of a witness early this week in Ottawa.

Around 9:45 a.m. today, a call came in from the office of Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services, 1901 Del., saying that Lisa K. Winter was in the building. Minutes later, Lawrence police detectives arrived, walked out with a woman who appeared to be Winter, and drove away with her in the front seat.

Police on Thursday had asked for the public’s help finding Winter as a “person of interest” in the shooting Tuesday night of Michael S. Miller, Ottawa. He was scheduled to take the witness stand the following day in an aggravated-battery trial in Douglas County District Court.

“Our investigation continues,” Ottawa police Capt. Ron Puterbaugh said this morning. “We will follow up on the information she gives us and see where that leads at this point.”
