Fleeing suspect breaks down family door

A Lawrence man woke up to the sounds of flying wood chips and a struggle inside his living room about 2 a.m. today.

The man, Sam Hunsaker, said a 30-year-old man broke down his door in an attempt to elude police. Police records show they responded to a pedestrian check in the 3000 block of University Drive about 2 a.m.

“My adrenaline was just going,” Hunsaker said. “It was very surreal.”

The police returned to the home shortly after taking the man into custody and found several bags of what they told Hunsaker were psychedelic mushrooms on and near a pile of baby’s clothes, Hunsaker said.

Hunsaker was at home with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and two grandkids when the incident occurred.
