KU issues alert for reported rape attempt

Kansas University Public Safety officers issued a crime alert Friday evening after an early morning report of an attempted rape near Snow Hall.

According to the report, a female student said that between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. she parked her car on Memorial Drive and got out of the car when a man grabbed her and pushed her against the vehicle.

She told officers they struggled but that she escaped by using a small knife she carried.

The suspect was described as a 20- to 30-year-old white male with facial hair. He wore a beanie-style cap.

Officers advised against walking alone at night, and to walk in well-lit areas. Officers also asked students to use various campus escort services such as Jaywalk and SafeRide, and to report any suspicious people or activity.

Anyone with information about the reported crime can call the public safety office at 864-5900 or KU Crime Stoppers at 864-8888.
