If as you’re thumbing through your Dec. 11, Sportsman of the Year issue of Sports Illustrated you stumble across a face that looks vaguely familiar to you, perhaps you’ve sat next to her in church or at the next table over in a local eatery.

Abby Jones, the Lawrence High senior who scored a state-record 38.4 points to win the state gymnastics title, is featured in “Faces in the Crowd.”

Kansas University sophomore men’s basketball forward Julian Wright appeared in the same feature of the Jan. 10, 2005 edition of the magazine when he was a senior at Homewood-Floosmoor High.

Others who appeared in the feature as teenagers include retired athletes who were all-time greats in their sports: the late Arthur Ashe, Rick Barry, and Carl Lewis.
