Sunflower Broadband to air prep football

Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 will telecast nine city and area regular-season high school football games on a delayed basis this fall.

All contests will be shown at 10:30 p.m. on Friday game nights and again at 11 a.m. the following Saturday.

The schedule will begin with Friday’s Olathe North-Lawrence High game at Haskell Stadium. Two more of the Lions’ games will be televised, including the city showdown with Free State High on Oct. 20 at Haskell Stadium.

Two other Free State contests are on the Sunflower Broadband schedule. Channel 6 also will televise the Sept. 29 game between St. John’s Military and Veritas, the station’s first foray into eight-man football.

Eudora and Tonganoxie will also each make one televised appearance this season.

In addition, the local cable outlet plans to televise postseason games involving local and area schools.

Channel 6 sportscaster D.J. Whetter will handle the play-by-play duties. Lynn Harrod, assistant principal at South Junior High, will be the analyst.
