St. Louis ? Gary Bennett won a game for St. Louis with two outs in the ninth for the second straight day, hitting a grand slam Sunday night to give the Cardinals a 10-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Bennett hit the game-winning single in a 2-1 victory Saturday and topped that with his first career grand slam off Bob Howry (3-5). It’s his second career game-winning homer and the Cardinals’ first game-winning slam since David Eckstein beat the Braves on Aug. 7, 2005.

St. Louis beat up on 29-year-old rookie Les Walrond, a former Kansas University standout who didn’t make it out of the third in his first career start, although Jeff Weaver failed to hold a 6-3 lead.

Jacque Jones homered for the Cubs but also committed a three-base fielding error that allowed Scott Rolen to circle the bases on an RBI single in the first.

Phoenix – Wilson Betemit hit a two-run homer and Rafael Furcal tripled in two more. Rookie Chad Billingsley (5-3) allowed two runs on nine hits in seven innings to improve to 4-0 in his last six starts.

Astros 13, Pirates 1

Pittsburgh – Willy Taveras ran his hitting streak to 30 games, Lance Berkman drove in four runs and the Houston Astros won their third in a row. Rookie Jason Hirsh (2-2) bounced back from a 14-0 loss Tuesday to Cincinnati pitching seven innings.

Marlins 4, Brewers 3

Miami – Pinch-hitter Mike Jacobs doubled home Jeremy Hermida with two outs in the ninth inning and the Florida Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers for their seventh straight victory.

Giants 8, Reds 0

San Francisco – Rookie Matt Cain pitched seven sharp innings. Omar Vizquel, Ray Durham and Shea Hillenbrand each drove in two runs as the Giants won for the 11th time in 14 games.

Rockies 6, Padres 3

Denver – Cory Sullivan drove in a career-high three runs with three hits. Matt Holliday hit his 24th homer and drove in two runs for the Rockies. Adrian Gonzalez and Brian Giles homered for the Padres.

Braves 13, Nationals 6

Atlanta – Jeff Francoeur, Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones slugged home runs and Adam LaRoche capped a six-run third inning with a three-run double.
