Former Kansas University basketball standout Keith Langford, who has been working out with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks the past couple of weeks, apparently is headed overseas to play basketball.

Langford’s agent, Michael Whitaker, said the 6-foot-4 guard, who played for the Fort Worth (Texas) Flyers in the NBA Developmental League last season, would compete for Vanoli Soresina in Italy’s A-2 Division.

“Keith will get an invitation to (NBA) veterans camp, but he figures it’s time to put some money in the bank,” said Whitaker, who is based in Washington, D.C.

“Keith has always had six-figure offers to play overseas, but his ambition was the NBA. This is a one-year deal so he can come back home, get in a summer league and continue to pursue that goal. With his bank account sufficient, he can count on going to veterans camp (in a year),” Whitaker added.

It’s believed Langford, who played for the Seattle SuperSonics’ summer-league team in June, could earn $150,000 to $200,000 playing in Italy’s pro league.

Langford, KU’s sixth all-time leading scorer who graduated in 2005, played point guard for the Flyers after working at off guard at KU. He averaged 11.5 points and 2.4 assists in 46 games. He exploded for 39 points in the Flyers’ 119-108 loss to Albuquerque in the league-championship game.

“They want him to score. They will pay Keith a boatload of money to put the ball in his hands,” Whitaker said.

Miles update: Former KU point guard Aaron Miles spent the past several days working out with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

The 6-1 Miles, who averaged 10.1 points and 6.6 assists per game in 27 games for the Fort Worth Flyers after playing 19 games with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors last season, will work out with the Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls in coming weeks.

Seattle is also in the mix for Miles, meaning the 2005 KU graduate could join Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison in the Chicago-Seattle NBA exhibition on Oct. 15 at Allen Fieldhouse.

“Aaron is close now,” his agent, Chris Emens, said of making an NBA roster. “In addition to being a good player, he brings so many intangibles that help a team. He turned down a ridiculous amount of money (overseas). There have been a lot overseas signings this year, but if you are close, go for it,” Emens added.

After going undrafted in 2005, Miles worked out for teams during the summer and, after garnering an invitation to Warriors’ camp, made the cut, though he was released early in the season.

“This is how he played his way into the league, going in and giving exposure to teams and coaches. They saw him play good basketball as well as what a good kid he is,” Emens said.
