Libby Schmanke has opened Art & Insight, a private practice in west Lawrence that provides individual art therapy along with creativity groups, art instruction and other art-related services.

Schmanke will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 2, offering free demonstrations of collage techniques and “make and take” collage cards and mandalas.

Schmanke is a registered and board-certified art therapist. She received a bachelor’s degree in humanities from Ottawa University, and a master’s degree in art therapy from Emporia State University, where she is a lecturer.

She has been a substance abuse counselor and program administrator in Topeka and Lawrence, working mostly with women. She served as director of First Step House in Lawrence for several years.
