To the editor:

On behalf of the Free State Track Backers and Lawrence High School cross country and track supporters, we would like to thank the community for their support for the fifth annual Crosstown Unity Run, which was held on Saturday, Aug. 5. A total of 375 runners were registered this year, raising $7,150. This money will be divided equally between the two schools and used to enhance their track and/or cross country programs.

This could not have taken place without the contribution and hard work of many individuals. We want to thank our sponsors, the Lawrence Police Department, Kansas University and our volunteers for their enthusiastic support.

We would like to invite everyone to attend a high school cross country meet this fall to support the teams and to see where the race proceeds are going. The Crosstown Unity Run is the perfect example of what a community can do when it comes together to support a common cause.
