Bradley Joseph Klug, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, was presented the rank of Eagle Scout during his Eagle Court of Honor on April 30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lawrence.

Brad joined Cub Scout Pack 3057 in 1995. In 1997, Brad transferred to Pack 3055. In 1997, Brad earned the Webelos rank with Cub Scout Pack 3055. In 1999, Brad earned the Arrow of Light and joined Troop 55.

He has attended summer camp at Camp Theodore Naish Scout Reservation near Bonner Springs and the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola, Mo. He has participated in many community service projects, including Scouting for Food, community cleanup activities and the United Way Day of Caring.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Brad planned and supervised the clearing of land and installation of new landscaping around the southeast exterior and the flagpole area of the Knights of Columbus Hall. He added 80 plants.

Brad has earned 21 merit badges and the 12-month camping award. He has served as a patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and scribe.

Brad is the son of Susan and Mark Klug, Lawrence.

Each Cub Scout pack in the Pelathe District will play host to a “School Night for Scouting,” an event to introduce boys and their parents to the Cub Scouting program.

Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a brief presentation by volunteer pack leaders with an opportunity to ask questions. This will be followed by registration of new boys, selecting adult leaders, and arranging the boys into dens.

The schedule is: Nottingham, Aug. 30; Vinland Elementary, Marion Springs, Baldwin Intermediate, Baldwin Primary, Quail Run, Sunset Hill, Deerfield, Pinckney, Hillcrest, New York and Woodlawn, Sept. 7; Langston Hughes, Sunflower, Schwegler, Broken Arrow, Prairie Park, Kennedy, Cordley, Wakarusa Valley and Raintree Montessori, Sept. 12; and Corpus Christi, Sept. 13.

Dates have not yet been set for St. John’s, Linwood Elementary and Lecompton Elementary.

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide boys and young adults an effective educational program designed to build desirable qualities of character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop personal fitness. Cub Scout packs are for boys in the first through fifth grades.

Boys in sixth grade may attend any of the meetings and will be provided information about Boy Scout troops.

Webelos from Cub Scout Pack 3077, chartered to Sunflower School PTO, attended camp Aug. 6-8 at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation in Bonner Springs.

Those who attended were: Matt Rood, Mason Davis, Tom Muiller and Corbin Robinson, second-year Webelos; and Lukas Mackey, Cole Greenwood, Jacob DiVilbiss and Michael Heschmeyer, first-year Webelos.

Mason Davis, Cole Greenwood, Jacob DiVilbiss, Lukas Mackey and Michael Heschmeyer also earned their Whittling Chip Card during camp. Adult leaders who attended were: Steve Muiller, Dan Rood, Greg DiVilbiss, Doug Mackey and Rick Heschmeyer.

Keith Wood, assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 59 and Pelathe District advancement chairman, recently completed a course on international scouting at the Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, N.M.

The curriculum focused on methods of involving American Scouts in a variety of international scouting opportunities, such as national and world jamborees, troop exchange visits, international scout camp staff exchanges, and helping the scout program grow through the World Friendship Fund. Wood will be working with other leaders from the Heart of America Council to develop an international scouting opportunity for local Scouts.

A special guest at the course was Stephen Peck, program director for scouting in the United Kingdom. He is a key figure in planning for the 2007 World Jamboree in London, which will on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scout movement by Lord Baden-Powell.
