Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 18, 1906: “It is well-known that Lawrence is such a temperance town that any candidate who runs on a ‘wet’ ticket is doomed. : Haskell Institute is having its dull season at present. The usual activity in the various working departments continues but elsewhere on the property, there is the traditional quietness. The 600 acres of farm land outside the 1,000 acres belonging to Haskell keep many boys busy. Haskell boys are genuine farmers and thoroughly understand the tilling of the soil. Girls are now busy putting up fruit but the pace is far slower than it will be in a few weeks.”
