The NFL’s Arizona Cardinals have announced plans to name the press box at the new Cardinals Stadium in memory of Kansas University graduate Steve Schoenfeld, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in October 2000 in Tempe, Ariz.

The Steve Schoenfeld Memorial Press Box will open today when the Cardinals meet the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason opener for both clubs.

Articles written by former Arizona Republic and CBS Sportsline reporter Schoenfeld about the Cardinals will be displayed on the walls of the press box.

Schoenfeld, a former president of the Pro Football Writers Assn., is a 1977 KU graduate and 1973 graduate of Shawnee Mission South.

In 2001, the Pro Football Writers helped establish a scholarship in Schoenfeld’s name at KU’s School of Journalism.
