Officials say heat, drugs led to death
Kansas City, Mo. ? Heat was a factor in the death of a 54-year-old Kansas City man who collapsed in his home, according to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man, whose name was not released, had a core body temperature of 107 degrees when he was found Tuesday. A urinalysis at a local hospital revealed the presence of PCP and cocaine.
A combination of hot external temperatures, no air conditioning in his home and drug use led to a heat stroke, the medical examiner’s office said.
At least 16 deaths statewide have been blamed on heat this year, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
