LHS tradition

To the editor:

“Showtime” at LHS is a great event for Lawrence. It has a long tradition, which began in 1955 when the LHS Class of 1955 put on the first such production called “The Red and Black Revue” with a theme of “Calendar Capers.” Money from this series of acts, entirely written, produced and cast by the senior class (1955), was used to buy the class gift to the school, the bronze “Chesty Lion” which adorns the LHS campus today. Drive by the entrance on 19th Street and take a look. It’s pretty neat.

Someone may know the sequence of performances over the years that culminated in “Showtime.” R. Wayne Nelson, longtime choral director at LHS, also had a series of programs called “For You a Song,” which was his theme song and written by him.

Lawrence has some wonderful traditions.
