Stuever’s two goals pace LHS soccer team

? Freshman Stef Stuever scored twice and sophomore Kathleen Hermesch added her own tally as the Lawrence High girls soccer team knocked off Shawnee Mission North, 3-1, on Tuesday night.

Stuever and Hermesch struck in the first half to give the Lions (3-6-1) a 2-0 lead, and Stuever closed out the scoring after the break with her second goal.

Freshman goalie Emma Lumpe only needed to make two saves for LHS.

“We probably outshot them 30-2. We dominated the time of possession,” said LHS coach Matt Anderson.

The Lions finally caught a break after a stretch of games that included five straight opponents ranked in the state’s top 10, followed by Monday’s rain-shortened affair against Blue Valley.

“We’ve got a little momentum going now,” Anderson said. “We could possibly get to sixth place in the Sunflower League, which would be a big jump.”

The Lions return to action Thursday against Leavenworth at the Youth Sports Inc., fields.
