Soccer Hawks’ early goals, experience keys in win over Sharpshooters

Two evenly matched teams faced each other Saturday at Youth Sports Inc. in the U6 Boys-B Coed division. If any team had an advantage it was the Soccer Hawks, this was their second year competing together, at least most of them, and proved to play a role in their victory.

Sharpshooters' Edward O'Neal-Wilks takes a goalkick late in the game. O'Neal-Wilks and the Sharpshooters battled a tough Soccer Hawks team Saturday at Youth Sports Inc.

“Our teamwork is really good, but we can still get better,” Soccer Hawk Nathaniel Spain said.

They certainly played well together in the second half, opening up a 3-1 lead early in the third period. But the Sharpshooters refused to give up any more goals without a fight. A lot of action took place at midfield where players battled for possession and gain any advantage possible.

Cameron Buzhardt and Edward O’Neal Wilks proved to be like miniature spark plugs as they were key in getting the Sharpshooters an open goal late in the game.

“I really like just having fun even early in the morning,” Buzhardt said. “But scoring goals and attacking the goal are the best parts.”

In the end, though the score varied slightly depending on who was asked, the Soccer Hawks came away with a 5-2 victory Saturday morning. Soccer Hawk Megan Fast summed it up for her team.

“We were shooting really good and always fighting for the ball,” Fast said.
