Sunflower School principal Jill Smith has announced plans to resign at the end of the school year to pursue other professional opportunities. Smith has been principal at Sunflower, 2521 Inverness Drive, since 2000.

Before coming to Lawrence, Smith taught for four years in Leavenworth and served six years as a principal in Osage City and Louisburg. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees and a doctorate from Kansas University.

The school district has started the process of hiring Smith’s replacement.
