Lions claim tight win at four-team track meet

The Lawrence High boys track and field team used a batch of top-three finishes Thursday to win a four-team meet on its home track.

The Lions tallied 88 points to nip Blue Valley West (82) in the team race. Topeka West (57) and Topeka (49) rounded out the field.

Individual LHS winners included Justin Long (300 hurdles), Jordan McKinney (triple jump), Uliti Fangupo (shot put) and Malcolm Brown (long jump). McKinney also ran a leg on the victorious 4×400 relay.

The LHS girls finished second in their four-team field, scoring 77.5 points to trail Blue Valley West (116). Topeka (38) and Topeka West (32.5) rounded out the scoring.

Heather Tidd was a double champion for the Lions, winning the shot put and discus. Other winners included Kim McDonald (100 hurdles), Leigh Ann Krische (300 hurdles) and Kara Kellison (pole vault).
