KU softball hits road to take on Baylor

? Kansas University’s Serena Settlemier leads Big 12 Conference softball in home runs (16), RBIs (42) and slugging percentage (.820).

Second in all three categories is Baylor’s Chelsi Lake with 12 HRs, 39 RBIs and a .750 slugging percentage.

Now Settlemier and Lake will go head-to-head in a weekend series at Getterman Stadium. Game times are 4 p.m. today and noon Sunday.

Settlemier, a fifth-year senior, also rates among the Big 12’s top pitchers with a 12-4 record and a 1.36 earned-run average. Settlemier ranks third in ERA and teammate Kassie Humphreys is fifth in ERA at 1.42.

Settlemier and Humphreys, who has allowed only two hits in her last 24 innings, will be trying to slow the league’s second-best hitting team. The Bears’ team batting average of .311 trails only Oklahoma’s .322 mark.

Kansas, meanwhile, ranks eighth in team batting with a .248 average. The Jayhawks (20-18) have won only one of five league starts while Baylor (24-14) is 4-1 in conference play.

The BU pitching staff ranks sixth in the Big 12 with a 2.40 ERA. Ace Lisa Ferguson (13-8) boasts a 1.39 ERA. Baylor has won five straight from the Jayhawks.
