Law enforcement report

¢ The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has submitted a report to prosecutors that a 5-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a male acquaintance in his 50s. The alleged touching, which was reported by the girl’s mother, happened multiple times in January and February at a mutual friend’s home in the southwestern part of the county.

¢ Lawrence Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old Lawrence man on suspicion of stealing cartons of cigarettes and food items from Kwik Shop, 1611 E. 23rd St. A clerk called police at 3:22 a.m. after the man took the items and ran from the store. Officers found and caught the man in the 1700 block of Kent Terrace.

¢ A 19-year-old Kansas University student has been charged with raping a 19-year-old woman July 9 at an apartment in central Lawrence. The man was arrested and booked into jail Wednesday afternoon. He was released on $25,000 bond and has a court appearance scheduled for April 19.
